All roads lead to … Mengen?! Definitely!
Mengen is ideally located geographically and has therefore always been a transport hub – hence its nickname, ‘Fuhrmannstadt’ (carriage driver town). And the fourth-largest town in the district of Sigmaringen is not only easy to reach by car, train, bicycle or plane.
The town of Mengen offers a high quality of life for its more than 10,000 inhabitants thanks to a combination of historical charm, modern infrastructure and a wide range of leisure activities. The town centre is characterised by its beautiful old town with its half-timbered houses, where everything is within walking distance. In addition to the historic architecture, there are numerous restaurants and shops. As a cycling culture town with the Danube Cycle Path running through the town centre, designated premium hiking trails and trekking camps, Mengen offers attractive opportunities for outdoor activities. Mengen’s five districts contribute to its diversity with their individual characteristics – from the Zielfinger Lakes bathing and lake landscape in Rulfingen, the Sandwinkel renaturation area on the Danube in Blochingen, the idyllic nature in the smallest district of Rosna, the Alpine view in Beuren to the district of Ennetach, close to the town centre, which is known not only for its pasta production.
Mengen also offers excellent conditions for families, particularly thanks to a wide range of educational institutions and childcare facilities. There are a total of eight childcare facilities, including a nature kindergarten. This enables parents to achieve a good work-life balance. Mengen also has five primary and secondary schools that guarantee a solid education. These include a primary school, a special school, a secondary school, a grammar school and a comprehensive school.
The educational offerings are rounded off by a municipal music school, an adult education centre and a youth centre.
For leisure activities, there is an outdoor and indoor swimming pool with sauna facilities, the town museum, a cinema and many cultural events. Over 100 retail shops, most of which are owner-operated, and around 30 restaurants provide residents with everything their hearts desire. In old age, residents are well cared for in one of the nursing and residential homes and by local (specialist) doctors and various healthcare providers.
Overall, Mengen combines the advantages of a well-equipped small town with an idyllic atmosphere and an active community life. The combination of historical flair, modern infrastructure and proximity to nature creates a high quality of life for residents of all ages.

Statement
“The town of Mengen has gained greater visibility through the Lake Constance Four-Country Region regional brand, enabling it to attract potential investors and employees from across the district. Mengen is a business location with more than 400 companies, including over 100 retail businesses, around 30 restaurants, service providers and craft businesses, as well as a large number of manufacturing and processing companies. These provide jobs for more than 3,000 people in Mengen every day. Mengen is also a shopping
and supply centre for a wide surrounding area, which gives the town a strong role
as a retail location.
Long-term security and development prospects for the economy, jobs and population – this has been achieved in and around Mengen with the creation of the inter-municipal commercial and industrial park Donau-Oberschwaben, or IGI DOS for short. The industrial park covers an area of 100 hectares and is the result of cooperation between the towns of Scheer and Mengen, as well as the municipalities of Hohentengen and Herbertingen.
The commercial areas along the B 32 and B 311 federal highways are divided into three zones: east, west and centre. The first companies are expected to move in at the end of 2025 / beginning of 2026.”
