Strong villages, strong community, Hohentengen in the ‘Göge’

The municipality of Hohentengen in northern Upper Swabia has a population of around 4,200 and covers an area of 3,656 hectares in a terminal moraine landscape between 564 and 594 metres above sea level. The area, historically known as ‘Göge’, consists of nine formerly independent villages and four hamlets, which also form the parish of the old Hohentengen parish.

In the municipality of Hohentengen, community is lived in two ways: on the one hand, the inhabitants identify strongly with their individual Göge villages, whose cultural and social life is shaped by local heritage associations that cultivate traditions and organise a variety of events.

Since the middle of the 20th century, the municipality of Hohentengen has developed from a predominantly agricultural structure into a location with craft, service and medium-sized industrial businesses, supported by industrial estates such as ‘Bachäcker’ and ‘Am Flugplatz (IGI DOS)’.

A diverse range of clubs and numerous sports and leisure facilities, including sports grounds, an indoor riding arena and the ‘Enzkofer Berg’ recreation area, offer residents a wide range of leisure activities. The proximity to Mengen Regional Airport and the convenient location as a starting point for trips to the surrounding regions further enhance the leisure value.

Since 1991, there has been a municipal partnership with Charensat in Auvergne, which was extended in 1997 to include the canton of St. Gervais d'Auvergne and the partner municipalities in the ‘Coer de Combraille’.

Statement

"The municipality of Hohentengen has achieved a strong presence among potential investors and employees through the Lake Constance Four Countries Region brand. We have created long-term security and development prospects for the economy, jobs and population through the inter-municipal commercial and industrial park Donau-Oberschwaben, or IGI DOS for short. This covers an area of 100 hectares and is the result of cooperation between the towns of Scheer and Mengen and the municipalities of Hohentengen and Herbertingen. There are three commercial areas: East (Herbertingen district), West (Mengen district) and Centre (Hohentengen district)."
